She was born and raised in Los Angeles, having spent part of her youth living abroad. Her early creative interests blossomed during a university film class, eventually leading her to pursue storytelling through both screenwriting and music. Howard's television writing career began in 2018 when she was hired to develop a sci-fi series for Pearl Street Films. She later sold her first pilot to MRC and was staffed as a writer and story editor for two seasons of the CW series In the Dark (2019–2021). During the COVID-19 lockdown, she showcased her versatility by contributing to the Audible comedy podcast Excessive, which featured talents like Chloe Fineman, Joshua Jackson, and Kim Cattrall.
